Our Beliefs

Our beliefs are stated in the following Tenets of Faith, which are part of our Church Constitution.

TENETS OF FAITH

WE BELIEVE THAT THE HOLY SCRIPTURE IS GIVEN BY INSPIRATION OF GOD:

We understand that the books which form the canon of the Old and New Testaments as originally given are entirely inspired and free from all error in the whole and in the part.  These books constitute the written Word of God, the only infallible rule of faith and conduct.

(Psalm 119:160; II Timothy 3:16; II Peter 1:19-21; Deuteronomy 29:29)

WE BELIEVE IN THE ONE TRUE GOD:

Infinite in glory, wisdom, holiness, justice, power, and love, one in His essence, but eternally subsistent in three Persons:  Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

(Psalm 83:18; Matthew 28:19; John 10:30, 15:26; Genesis 1:1, 14)

WE BELIEVE IN THE VIRGIN BIRTH OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST:

The only begotten Son of God the Father, His absolute deity, His sinless humanity and perfect life, the eternal all-sufficiency of His atoning death, His bodily resurrection, His ascension to the Father's right hand.

 (John 1:1; Matthew 1:18-25)

WE BELIEVE IN THE HOLY SPIRIT:

Who is the Third Person of the Trinity, and the divine agent in nature, revelation and redemption;  that He regenerates, indwells, baptizes, fills, seals and anoints all who become children of God through Christ.

(John 3:5; Ephesians 1:13-14; Romans 8:9; I Corinthians 12:13; Galatians 5:16-25)

WE BELIEVE THAT MAN WAS CREATED BY A DEFINITE ACT OF GOD:

Created in His own image and is dependent upon and accountable to his creator.  Through disobedience, the first man sinned and fell from his original state of moral perfection.  Thus, he brought upon himself and upon the whole human race the penalty of sin:  spiritual and physical death.  We believe that this condition of spiritual death, or universal depravity of human nature, has been transmitted to the entire human race;  and hence that every child of Adam is born into the world with a nature that is inherently corrupt, and which cannot be spiritually changed by mere reformation apart from divine grace.

(Genesis 1:25-27; Psalm 51:5; Romans 3:22-23, 5:12-21; Ephesians 2:1-3, 12.)

WE BELIEVE IN SALVATION BY GRACE THROUGH FAITH:

That salvation is the free gift of God, neither merited nor secured in part or in whole by any virtue or work of man, but received only by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ;  that this salvation affects the whole man;  that apart from Christ there is no possible salvation.

(Ephesians 2:8, 9; John 1:12; Titus 3:5; John 10:28; Philippians 1:6)

WE BELIEVE IN THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIST:

Jesus will return bodily, visibly, and personally to conform believers to His own image and to establish His millennial Kingdom.

(Revelation 19:11-16; 20:4-7; I Thessalonians 4:13-18; Jude 14, 15; Hebrews 10:37)

WE BELIEVE IN FUTURE LIFE, BODILY RESURRECTION AND ETERNAL JUDGMENT:

That at death the souls of the redeemed are made perfect in holiness and immediately enter into the presence of Christ, enjoying conscious fellowship with Him, there to await the resurrection of the body.  That the spirits of the unsaved at death descend immediately into Hades where they are kept under punishment until the final day of judgment, at which time their bodies shall be raised from the grave, that they shall be judged and cast into Hell, the place of final and everlasting punishment.

(I Corinthians 15;II Corinthians 5:8-10; Luke 16:19-23; Revelation 20:11-15)

WE BELIEVE IN THE IMPORTANCE OF THE LOCAL CHURCH:

That a New Testament church is a local assembly of born-again baptized believers united in organization to practice New Testament ordinances, to meet together for worship, prayer, fellowship, teaching, and a united testimony, and to engage actively in carrying out the Great Commission.

(Matthew 28:19, 20;Acts 2:41, 42; Ephesians 1:22, 23)

WE BELIEVE IN DIVINE HEALING:

It is our conviction that our Father's care has made provision for Divine healing. While we are grateful for scientific advancement and accept such progress as part of God's unfolding plan, we believe healing can also be experienced through prayer.  This healing includes both the physical and emotional needs of humanity.

 (James 5:14, 15; Acts 28:8; Mark 6:13, Psalm 103:3)

WE BELIEVE THE ORDINANCES GIVEN TO THE LOCAL CHURCH ARE TWO, BAPTISM AND THE LORD'S SUPPER:

That baptism is by immersion of believers in water, thus portraying the death, burial, and the resurrection of Jesus Christ;  that the Lord's Supper is the partaking of the bread and cup by the believer as a continuing memorial of the broken body and shed blood of Christ.

(Matthew 28:19, 20; Acts 8:38, 39; Romans 6:3-4; I Corinthians 11:23, 34; Matthew 26:26-30)

WE BELIEVE IN THE SANCTITY OF HUMAN LIFE:

All human life is sacred and created by God in His image.  Human life is of inestimable worth in all its dimensions, including pre-born babies, the aged, the physically or mentally challenged, and every other stage or condition from conception through natural death.  We are therefore called to defend, protect, and value all human life.

(Ps 139.)

MARRIAGE POLICY:

Because God has ordained marriage and defined it as the covenant relationship between a man, a woman, and Himself, Calvary Community Church will only recognize marriages between a biological man and a biological woman.  Further, the Pastors, Church Council and staff of Calvary Community Church shall only participate in weddings and solemnize marriages between one man and one woman.  Finally, the facilities and property of Calvary Community Church shall only host weddings between one man and one woman.

FINAL AUTHORITY FOR MATTERS OF BELIEF AND CONDUCT:

The statement of faith does not exhaust the extent of our beliefs.  The Bible itself, as the infallible Word of God that speaks with final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of humankind, is the sole and final source of all that we believe.  For purposes of Calvary Community Church’s faith, doctrine, practice, policy, and discipline, our Senior Pastor and Church Council is Calvary Community Church’s final interpretive authority on the Bible’s meaning and application.
